HEALTH COACHING with Tessa Tovar

What is a Health Coach?

A health coach is a person who can help you identify how your habits and behaviors effect your overall feelings of wellness and fitness. Most people fail at making healthy choices typically because they approach "dieting and exercise" as a short-term fix for a temporary situation. They typically gain the weight they lost back and then some. Health coaching is a quest to create a lifestyle change that is sustainable for the long run. If you often feel overwhelmed by the multitude of health and fitness theories out there, please know that you're not alone. A health coach is someone who can help you navigate food and movement choices that fit your lifestyle. This is NOT a one size fits all approach. This is a commitment to seeing you as an individual with bio-individual needs. A health coach helps you create a nutrition and movement plan that feels genuine for you. A health coach recommends a sustainable and realistic plan in which to begin your lifestyle change. Your health coach will take it step by step, at your pace, so that you don't feel overwhelmed. When you commit to making realistic and incremental lifestyle, based suggestions guidance from your health you can expect to see small and continued changes that will amount to a measurable and rewarding difference over the course of your health journey. Health coaching is not about a short-term fix, it is about guiding you to achieve your highest potential. Food changes do not mean dieting and starving yourself, it can be as simple as learning to prepare healthy, hearty, delicious balanced meals and deserts. In the same way exercise does not have to be a grueling work out, it can be as accessible as developing a yoga practice, or going for daily walks.

About Me

My Philosophy

About

I am a yoga instructor and perennial student in the Portland/Vancouver area. With a personal practice in Tantra, Vinyasa, Yin, and Kundalini, I lead well-rounded and healing yoga classes. Self-discovery is deepened through the use of meditation, pranayama, and mantras.

Background

I believe yoga is a vehicle to heal and attune ourselves to levels of deeper understanding. I aim to create a safe and sacred space for practice and love to add a combination of soothing music, essential oils, and gentle hands-on adjustments to foster peace and purpose for my students.

I discovered yoga in 2001 during my Freshman year of college. I began with a physical Asana practice that deepened over time through philosophy, writing, nutrition, and Ayurveda. Acting as a guide to others who are seeking a deeper connection with themselves is my driving purpose.
