Tessa received her degree in Human Communication with honors at the University of Southern Oregon in Ashland. This degree helped her launch a career as an Executive Assistant in various industries including a law firm, venture capital, high tech start ups, and health care. She spent over a decade building the skill set of working with people from all walks of life, finding value and intrigue in each individual person. It was at Southern Oregon University that Tessa found and developed her passion for the practice of Yoga. Since 2001 she has been practicing Yoga and in 2015 she acquired her first 200HR RYT. Since then she has accumulated over 500HRS of accredited teaching certifications with a focus on Vinyasa, Nidra, Restorative, Reiki Level I&II, Pranayama and guided meditation.
In 2017 Tessa received her certification in Health Coaching from the Institute of International Nutrition (IIN). She currently has a health coaching practice that focuses on bio-individuality which means that each person has different needs for creating optimal whole body health. She believes that we all have our own personal medicine which includes food, environment, financial outlook, spirituality, relationships and many more contributing factors.
In 2018 Tessa founded “Outside the Studio''—a platform and medium—for Tessa to host and share all of her musings and learnings. “Outside the studio” is a Podcast and YouTube channel that asks the question, ‘can we take what we learn from the safety of our yoga mat and bring it into our everyday lives?’. In this way Yoga becomes not only a vehicle for self-study (svadhyaya) but also for practice (vairagya) and non-attachment to the outcome (aparigraha).
Tessa is a lover of physical activity and the outdoors. She spends her summers backpacking and hiking in the PNW. She conditions her body in the winters with a regular running and cycling regimen. Tessa relaxes and unwinds after a long day of work, or playing hard, by reading fiction, taking bubble baths and snuggling with her two cats, one dog and husband.
